(I want to add that this picture makes me very uncomfortable. The combination of a visible ribcage and a pirate tie seems to suggest that this level of thinness is trendy — a mentality that is a major contributing factor in the prevalence of eating disorders. However, because it makes me so uncomfortable that I don’t even want to look at it, I felt that was all the more reason to post it. I hope that makes a shred of sense. ~andi)

The Journey to Self Improvement blog had a beautiful post recently in which the author laments labels and tries to explain what it feels like to be in the middle. I love the ending:
Now, I’m not saying I want to start taking hormones and packing my pants or anything, but I often just like feeling masculine. Maybe this is just another treat in my grab bag of issues. For some reason, I don’t want to be defined as a woman or man or a heterosexual or lesbian. I just want to be able to float above the labels and, at the same time, still be a sexual being.
Sigh.
I’m never really satisfied with what I am at any given moment.
The whole thing is worth reading. Go to it.
