Spook

You can call me… Spook, The Boi Polloi, Taylor Trash

I identify as… Transqueer rivet-punk gender anarchist.
A gay man in a biologically female body.
Third-gender pansexual biofem who presents as male.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … Anything that isn’t a female pronoun — female pronouns make me itch. Gender-neutral are fine, as are male pronouns. If I’m dressed and presenting as a male, male pronouns are preferred.

I’m attracted to… Intelligence, uniqueness and a sense of humor. People who bend or break rules and boundaries are a plus and gender ambiguity, tattoos or piercings are an added bonus.

When people talk about me, I want them to… Realize there’s a lot more to me than my gender, but also that my gender and presentation are not there to be humored or brushed off. It is as much a part of me as it is a part of anyone.

I want people to understand… There is so much more to gender than what is perceived. Gender as performance, as rebellion, as liberation, whereby no one should be confined to a box simply because documents and letters say so. Realize that the M and the F may be there for legal purposes, but as individuals, we have the freedom to deviate in whatever way we wish away from two little boxes into a whole new universe of diversity.

About Spook, The Boi Polloi, Taylor Trash
I’m a 35 year old disabled artist and full-time gender deviant in Tampa, Florida, and yes I know I don’t look my age. I have two teenage sons and am in a long term loving relationship. I keep a blog on my own gender journey at boipolloi.blogspot.com and my artwork can be viewed at spookeriffic.deviantart.com. Break the molds, and be yourself.

Hann

You can call me… Hann, beardless or cupati.

I identify as… Blank, genderless, asexual, pirate, geek, gamer.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … avoid them. Or use whatever you like. I really don’t care. I don’t like being auto-assumed anything, but if you know what I am, I’ll take anything.

I’m attracted to… people who do awesome things. And people who are enthusiastic about what they do, whatever it is.

When people talk about me, I want them to… talk about what I do, not what I am.

I want people to understand… that no one has a gender on the internet, we are all just strings of ones and noughts. Also, if people are confused, it makes them think.

Kids get it.

Someone wrote…

Kids get it. When a child asks me if I’m a boy or a girl, I say “I’m biologically female, but I feel like a boy. I feel like I’ve been born in the wrong body.” They say “Oh, okay,” and run off to play. They don’t care what I am. They just like it when I play with them. I wish adults could be more like that.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Audrey/Matt

You can call me… Audrey or Matt. Beautiful works too.

I identify as… a woman. My internal identity is a woman; how that expresses itself is what I am figuring out. But, my penchant for attention means I enjoy the aspect of breaking gender roles when in male mode.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I would much prefer feminine pronouns, or genderless pronouns, but male ones are fine. I leave it up to each person.

I’m attracted to… People, irregardless of their sex. I would typically say I am a straight female, but I have only dated women as a male. We shall see what the future holds though.

When people talk about me, I want them to… Understand me. See me for the real me. Stop forcing me to be “male.”

I want people to understand… That gender is fluid, identities can vary. Being true to yourself is the most important thing one can do.

About Audrey/Matt
xanga.com/mooshpitmatt I am a young transgendered person just trying to make her way in the world. I blog, I write, I change the world.

Recommendation: Wicked Desires

A reader recommends…

Wicked Desires

Wicked Desires
Short Film

This film is interesting because it’s told from the straight younger sibling’s perspective, and really shows how one person’s struggle with gender identity can affect the whole family.

Profile: Lee

Lee

You can call me… Lee/lame-o

I identify as… an emotional, white, femme/androgyne, gay boy’s personality shoved inside this rather awkward vagina-having vessel of skin and bone.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … most people use female pronouns, a few use male. i’m not picky about which you choose, nor am i offended.

I’m attracted to… tall, feminine/androgynous men who wear glasses and dress stylishly.

When people talk about me, I want them to… see me in a non-judgmental way and not jump to conclusions about my personality because of how i look or talk.

I want people to understand… that i’m just a human, same as anyone else. i just happen to be a bit less confined in terms of my identification.

About Lee
i’m a fifteen year old (almost sixteen) male/female/whatever ball of fantastic-ness that enjoys such activities as sleeping and writing stories about ridiculous things.

French knickers.

Kab wrote…

I’m staying in another country with family, and my friend is coming to stay for a week. I asked him to get me a few things (my overall stay out here being over three months) and among the things I asked him to get were some French knickers. I jokingly asked him if he’d ever tried them and got a typical, straight-male, knee-jerk reaction that he wasn’t interested in women’s clothing at all. He ordered them for me online and texted me when they arrived. I asked if he was going to try them on, saying that I wouldn’t mind if he did, but got no reply. That evening we were chatting on MSN as usual, and he mentioned how comfortable they were… Just goes to show that until you try it, you’ll never know.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Recommendation: Enough Man

sarah e recommends…

enough-man

Enough Man
Documentary

I discovered this film while prescreening titles for my History of Sexuality professor in the spring. In the end, this one couldn’t be shown in class because it has too much explicit sex in it, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who wouldn’t be bothered by that. It’s made up of unstructured conversations with nine transmen and their partners where they talk about body issues, sex and romance issues, and everything else. The director does a really good job of smoothly integrating the candid discussion scenes with the candid sex scenes (which can get rather kinky). I found this film really moving; while it may only represent a small segment of the trans community, it felt very personal and true to the lives of the people it portrays.

I identify as… A genderfucking accidentally-poly queer

As far as third-person pronouns go, … he, him, his

I’m attracted to… People lost in the grey area of gender

When people talk about me, I want them to… get their words out without tripping over pronouns.

I want people to understand… that it’s not a big deal if they get my gender wrong. Most of time I can’t figure it out myself!

About Ryan
Ryan has been a queer activist since the age of 16 when he was the founding president of his high school’s GSA. Since then, he’s been involved in college, local, and state-wide organizations. Besides that, he is a classically trained guitarist and a bass player in a band.

Different pronouns to be used by different people.

Someone wrote…

I asked my old friends to call me “he,” but it sounds awkward when some of them say it. I wonder if it’s supposed to be that way when you switch pronouns, or if I prefer different pronouns to be used by different people.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Shilo

You can call me… Shilo

I identify as… Heteroflexible, kinky

As far as third-person pronouns go, … Female pronouns

I’m attracted to… Men. All kinds of men, and some women, if they have a penis, or really beautiful eyes.

When people talk about me, I want them to… say something juicy and fantastic.

I want people to understand… That there is a 3rd sex… maybe more. It isn’t always about being one gender trapped in another. Some people feel trapped by having to choose just one. I am both. People look at me and see a pretty girl, but that’s not all of who I am.

About Shilo
I am a total girly-girl and a perfect gentleman. I am an old-fashioned modern woman. I love my friends and family with a loyal passion and they feel the same about me. I am a good friend and a great lover.
