Buzz Cut Grandma

Someone wrote…

I’m trying not to let it bother me, but when I tell my grandma about my buzz cut, and the first thing she says is “Like a boy?,” it does kind of bug me just a little bit. It also makes me hesitant to send any pictures or go see her.

(I’ve gotten used to responding with, “Yep — just like cousin Jimmy!” But seriously, yeah, it’s hard. ~SD)

What are you thinking about gender right now?

I get the “you look like you just got out of jail” comment

I hear you. My grandmother always tells me my hair looked so nice when it was long.

Once, we were talking about a male cousin of mine. She said he probably had a girlfriend; “or a boyfriend,” I added. “Uh-huh –she said–. Say, why don’t you wear skirts? Or earrings?” Subtle.

“No, grandma, like a dyke!” (evil grin)

Genderkid: My grandma says the same thing every time I cut my hair off! “Are you going to grow it out again? It looks so nice when it is long!”
