Imposed gender roles.
Someone wrote…
I wonder if we’ll see less of people caring about gender as imposed gender roles weaken. Do you bother questioning your plumbing when it no longer implies anything except whether you’re the one who gets pregnant?
How long do you think it will be before we can see this happen?

i can’t imagine that it’ll ever happen. thousands of years, thousands of human societies … have consistently had gender roles and expectations. it looks like it’s a universal for our species, although for individuals the system may not apply.
at the very least, it would be far beyond the lifetimes of any readers here.

Maybe, when manly men feel free to walk down a public street in a skirt. I’m not holding my breath.

I may not be the manliest of manly men, but I’m strongly cis- and feel quite free to walk down the street in my skirt (as I was just saying in that other thread…).
And yet, sadly, gender remains a constant.
