Iofo

You can call me… Iofo

I identify as… queer and female-bodied. (So far) woman-loving.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … Among acquaintances I am she/her, but to strangers sometimes he/him, although I would welcome any interpretation of my presented gender.

I’m attracted to… genderfuckery, androgyny, incongruity, foreign (and domestic) accents, full lips and an open heart.

When people talk about me, I want them to… regard me holistically as an individual, not fragment my being into distinct captions (Asian, young, dyke etc.) that more often than not include too much socialized baggage to allow for any of my original character to factor into consideration.

I want people to understand… that I (like most others, I imagine) was brought up believing that raising any hesitation or doubt as to my gender in the eyes of a stranger should arouse previously untapped wells of shame in my awkward pubescent soul. These days I enjoy my ambiguity, and collect the occasional odd stare with pride.

About Iofo
College student in Berkeley, subsisting on penne and tea. Occasionally pretends to be Quasimodo and plays the really loud bells in that really tall tower, really badly.
