Profile: Kate

You can call me… Kate.

I identify as… I’m not sure. Genderqueer, something in between. When I was little I was such a tomboy and wished I was a boy. But I am physically feminine and I have always been raised as a girl and wanted to make everybody happy. Now I don’t feel like either and it’s confusing.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … “she” works for now, if only because “he” makes me uncomfortable. Growing up I always heard negative things about butch women. Now I am finally comfortable dressing more androgynously and my girlfriend said she’d be into it if I “butched it up.” Now I am feeling differently about pronouns.

I’m attracted to… Femininity, not completely limited to women, although I prefer them. I like when my girlfriend wears dresses and lacy, pretty things.

When people talk about me, I want them to… see all of my positive attributes. I am smart, funny, hardworking and loyal and I’d rather people not make a snap judgment about my worth. Also, try not to stare.

I want people to understand… that not all people fit into the binary.
