Readjust my thinking

Someone wrote…

A friend recently announced that he would start transitioning. I was a little confused by this. I’ve looked up to him for a while, in part because he seemed so comfortable with himself, a fifty-something queer leatherman. Now he shows up at play parties in mesh tops and sarongs instead of black jeans and sleeveless t-shirts. I guess I’m wondering, was what I liked about him in the past a false front? Maybe I just need to readjust my thinking.

Ever been in a similar spot?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

A friend who I’d long had a huge crush on came out as male. It confused me a ton about my identity. Did this mean I’m not a lesbian? By calling myself a lesbian, but still being attracted to him am I invalidating his identity?

I know a few lesbians who are attracted to transmen. And, as a transman, I’d love to date lesbians (some guys would get a little offended, though.) Personally, when someone trans is involved, I think relationships are beyond being gay/straight.
