a third gender in Samoan culture
The fafafini are male bodied, but raised as female. They are treated very respectfully and marry men.

I have read/heard about the Fafafini before, and it was cool to see a condensed version of the story. It’s kind of sad that the biggest reason for the “third” gender is because work-related gender roles are so strictly enforced, but it’s nice to see a society-sanctioned blurring of gender lines in a community.

This is magnificent! I agree with Beth about the gendered work, and I do wonder if there is the same sort of “gender mobility” for female-bodied individuals anywhere.
