Recommendation: Ma Vie En Rose

Ma Vie En Rose

Ma Vie En Rose
A French film about a young boy who expresses homosexual and genderqueer feelings and thoughts.

I went to a very small alternative elementary school, and one day, one of the parents brought this in to an assembly to educate us all about homosexuality and transgender issues. I have not watched it since then, but I remember it being very beautiful and sad. There was a lot I couldn’t understand then, because I was quite young and couldn’t follow the subtitles very easily, but I think it is a very suitable film to share on this website, and you should all watch it if you have the time. The quality of the link I attached is poor, but do rent it if you can.

I just saw this movie for the first time this week! It in fact IS both beautiful and sad. I think the portrayal of the fumbling ways the child's parents struggle is really well done.

It's a great movie; I happened upon it on IFC one day. Shame about the U.S. rating (it was given an R-rating for no real reason. Looks like only because of the transgender content). It's very beautiful and appropriate for pretty much all.

I concur, good movie. It is upsetting and tender and completely opened my eyes to the experience of being a Very Different Child. I've been thinking ever since watching it that if my wife and I ever adopt, I hope the child is trans. They deserve absolute love and freedom.

Yup, I've long enjoyed this movie. Watched one day I was home sick, but I think the streamed version with captions I found had text in French only. It was good practice :)
