The language of this synopsis makes me bang my head against the wall.

From what I hear, though, the movie itself is very well done.

well, yes…lets get out our red sharpies class and correct it then? *smug face*

Based on the true-life story of a Thai who wishes to have a gender reassignment operation to become more physically female. To pay for this, she enters the brutal world of Thai boxing, unnerving her opponents by performing a makeup application ritual before each fight.

or am I missing the mark? I think language aside it sounds interesting, if not done like the futurama episode where the robot got in the ring, donned a tutu and called himself “gender bender”

Agreed, terrible wording in the synopsis but the movie is interesting not only from a trans/queer perspective, but a feminist one as well. The depiction of a woman (and a transwoman at that) in such a “masculine” sport is wonderful. The fact that it’s based on a true story makes it that much more compelling.

Hey Everyone — thanks for the heads up. We just updated the language in our synopsis, and added a link to the wikipedia article about the real boxer behind the story.

(Leaving the movie poster as is, though. Sorry about that one.)

I wasn’t offended, I figured it was just copy and pasted over, the content wouldn’t be lost in context but I think its cool that it was changed.

I have transfriends who are fine with “sex change” others think that their “reassigning gender” and that its not as easy a change as flipping a switch but that they were assigned–but–I am not truly bothered by either, I just was being the devils advocate

I think the poster is eye catching though. Its like HE WHAT? SHE WHAT? WHAT?! must watch. I kinda like being confused, because it sparks curiousity, which makes me interested, and then enlightened.

Amen to that, kendall. I love the contrast of the graceful painted nails to the boxing glove.
