When you stand alone and choose to do what is right, to say truth, to be yourself, then you are magnificent. Human beings by their courage distinguish themselves thus and through their living convictions make their courage real. It is this capacity for courage that makes a better world possible. It is the birthplace of hope.

For the first time someone asked me what pronouns I preferred. The sad thing is that I lied. But it still made my day. Back in my home country no one would ever even think about asking me that.

We get where we’re going not only by great leaps of faith but also and more usually by small steps taken one after the other. Take heart in your troubles that you have moved a little closer to the place you long to be.
