Profile: Crispin

You can call me… Crispin, Chrissie, Thing…. anything goes when you need my attention.

I identify as… A Schrödinger’s cat of gender, I never know what I am until I try to observe it. One day I’ll observe and be a straight man, five minutes later I may find myself to be an asexual androgene, or a genderqueer woman, or none of the above.
Beyond that, I’m a geek, a weirdo, and proud of both.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I LOVE singular they, it’s got a great ring to it.

I’m attracted to… everything.
Our world is filled with amazing beauty… you can find it in a concrete building, a lake, a line of code, or a person. I love it all.

When people talk about me, I want them to… tell tales of a strange person they know, who’s proud of being weird, happy to mess about with gender, mad about computers, but most importantly, loving and loyal.

I want people to understand… that life is far too short to care about how other people present themselves, just focus of making yourself and those you love happy.

About Crispin
Chrissie is a 20-year-old computer science student in Norwich, England. They sail, they row, they play games, they LARP, they write, and occasionally they do their work.

Conflicting Emotions

Submitted by Steven, the model. Photography by Marek Isalski.

“Here I am dressed as myself and at my most happy, but in front of a camera is the possibility of my personal life and work life getting too close for comfort.  I know who I am, so why can’t I be who I am?”

A Wish

Someone wrote…

I wish society weren’t so black and white about gender.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Profile: Rocio

You can call me… Rocio

I identify as… genderqueer. I am a female, but I try not to adhere to any particular gender. When I walk, I don’t consider myself male or female.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … she.

I’m attracted to… inner-beauty. People I want to save, to understand, to know, to share terrible times with. People who show me their weaknesses, and in doing so, look so strong.

I want people to understand… that all of their preconceived notions on sexuality and self-identity are not the truth, they are the products of indoctrination.

About Rocio
I try to be a friend of change, and I love to laugh. Make me laugh and I’ll love you. I eat a lot. I attend the California State University of Fullerton, and I study English, which is a terrible major to have because imperialism makes me want to punch someone in the face. I’m Indigenous and I take everything seriously that you don’t, and vise versa.

Question: How to cope?

A reader asks…

Sometimes I get very depressed that gender exists at all. It seems society is going in the right direction (what with more acceptance of genderqueer folks and whatnot), especially considering where we are in history, but it still really bothers me. Any suggestions about how I should deal with this?

Please post your response in the comments below.

I Want A Place

Someone wrote…

I want to live in a place where what I wear is not more important than how I’m doing.

Profile: Kit

You can call me… Kit, which is technically short for Christopher, but Christopher doesn’t feel right at all.

I identify as… A transgirl, usually. Sometimes I’m just a girly boy, but that’s pretty rare.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I prefer she, her, daughter, sister, etc. It just feels… right.

I’m attracted to… People. Really, I couldn’t care less about what’s in between your legs. That doesn’t define you. I like you for who you are, not what you are. You can be genderqueer, transgender, cisgender, whatever. I’m not bothered. Just as long as you’re nice.

When people talk about me, I want them to… not know what gender I am. Really, I miss the ambiguity that male puberty has robbed of me. I miss being able to go “You know what, I’m not sure,” when they ask me.

I want people to understand… that I don’t just like the idea of wearing a skirt, however appealing that may be (which is loads, because it’s really comfortable and fun), because I can do that anyway. I want people to understand that I want to grow breasts and live as a girl, but my dick… I’m pretty indifferent. It’s there. It’s sort of fun, I guess.

About Kit.
I’m a pansexual transgirl who loves sci-fi and anime.

Recommendation: Skin Horse

Vicky recommends…

Skin Horse
A webcomic

It’s a webcomic about a black ops government project tasked with the capture, rehabilitation, and reintroduction to society of nonhuman sentients, with a title that’s a reference to the Velveteen Rabbit.

The main character is a heterosexual transvestite psychologist with an amazing fashion sense nicknamed “Tip.” Skin Horse is easily the best depiction of transvestitism in any form of literature, ever, and that’s not a claim I make lightly. It catalogs the trials and tribulations of being non-heteronormative in a heteronormative world perfectly, while still maintaining a feeling that Tip is accepted and loved by his coworkers.

Profile: Ronen

You can call me… Ronen.

I identify as… A male-identified androgyne. A drag prince, a faerie. Legally female. No-hormones, no-operations, no-way.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I’m currently experimenting with “he/him/his.” Ask me again tomorrow.

I’m attracted to… first and foremost my fantastic fiancé, but also: Princes like myself, whatever their bits happen to be. People who possess a delicate beauty, either in looks or personality. Silly folk.

When people talk about me, I want them to… consider who I am beyond the confines of my physical body and/or legal status.

I want people to understand… that there’s a divide between being transgender and transsexual. That a person can be one without necessarily being the other.

About Ronen.
I’m an actor, musician, drag performer and burner based in Chicago. I blog about my gendersperiences at ( http://mercurys-moon.dreamwidth.org/ ).
