Cold? Nah, two pairs of tights and magic fairy magic see!

Submitted by grrlAlex, the model. Photography by Michal Iwanowski

“I’ve been working on this idea – a series of photographs exploring the experience of being transgender from the perspective of m2f in the context of 40 years of unknowing.  For 40 years I dreamed I was a girl, imagined the girl experience but didn’t know it was possible.  I now live out as transgender, genderqueer -the photo was me getting ready to do a dramatic shot on a snow covered hilltop by a gnarled tree.”

Once when I was a Man

Submitted by Jer, the model

“I created this character for an amateur photoshoot. The mustache is one I’ve drawn on in this occassion and others to further display my inner being – the male within. I view myself as a gender fluid person – leaning more towards the masculine part of me that I have learned to draw outward through the years, yet I am still woman, a necessary counterpart to the other.”

Profile: Grace

You can call me… Grace…it’s the name I was born with.

I identify as… queer, as in I prefer women, but I’m not opposed to men. I’m curious about being genderqueer, curious about cross-dressing.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I identify as a woman, so I prefer “she” or “her”…although, it’s quite amusing when I am mistaken for a man. I don’t find that to be insulting at all in fact.

I’m attracted to… men and women, but mostly women. I’d rather be labeled by an outsider as gay, than I would straight. I’m more comfortable being seen with a woman, and having sex with a woman, than I am with a man…but I also love men. I’m just more gay than straight.

When people talk about me, I want them to… to not use labels as a putdown. So many people call me a dyke, or a freak, because it’s more comfortable to label me that way. I prefer to live without labels, but if someone were to label me, I would hope they would show me respect, and not judge me based on my mannerisms or appearance.

I want people to understand… that judgement hurts. I want the freedom to be who I am, and be who I want to be without being judged. It’s so hard to come out when the whole world wants you to be this particular person. No one completely fits into one category.

About Grace
I am an undiscovered singer and an amateur photographer. In my spare time, I write and harmonize. I fight zombies and collect music boxes. I hang out with nerds at conventions and play D&D. I love music and musical theater. I aspire to create things, and be a better bass guitar player. I tend to geek out sometimes.
