As close as

Someone wrote…

I want to tell my family about my genderqueer identity, I know they’ll accept me but that’s not why I’m scared. What if they change their perception of me. I want them to treat me just how they do now so for now I won’t say anything, I’ll just live as close as I can to being me in secret. Hopefully in time I’ll be able to express myself fully.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

It’s a hard thing to keep stealth with your family. They know things about you you don’t suspect about yourself. And it is also a special kind of insult to not trust your own family with the truth. Yeah, it can be like being between the proverbial rock and hard place, but though difficult, honesty is actually better…

In my experience, people who are least willing to be honest about who they are, are really uncertain about who they are and want to leave avenues open for retreat.
