Out Law Poet’s Perspective

Toben wrote…

When their mouths criminalize you into hate words
Break the cuffs from behind your back
But don’t attack them.
Invite them to be ignorant.
Let them teach you their vocabulary.

Write down the dictionary
Of their brass knuckled tongues.
Bind it against your chest
Like you do with your breasts
Every morning before breakfast.

When the words stop coming at you sit down somewhere.
In silence tear every page from every volume
Of slang and slaughter from your rib cage.
Do not answer this rhetorical hate mail.
Do not unlearn their words.

Hold each page to your lips
But never let the words cross them.
Hold them to your teeth and tongue
But never let their sound roll off them.
Practice this often.

Instead answer them like prayers.
Plant them root up in your garden
So they can grow upwards.
Nothing is fertilized by bullshit
So never spoon feed your wilting parts dodged bullets.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?
