Question: Pronouns

Mars asks…

Hey, I’m afab agender who’s having problems with pronouns. I’m currently using she/her pronouns because it’s what I’m used to and what most people default to anyway, but the truth is I hate it. Unfortunately, I also seem to hate he/him and they/them pronouns. I’ve looked into neopronouns, but while I can use them for other people, they don’t feel right in relation to myself either. Does anybody have any advice to offer about what I should do?

You could use just your name. Like for me it would b Alex/Alex’s/Alex’s. It sometimes sounds weird in conversation like: Alex went to get Alex’s cat. I like it anyway, you can try it. Also just try all sorts of stuff and stop if you don’t like it.

There’s also a pronoun dressing room that you can use, basically putting your name and pronouns in a story and seeing how it feels. Here’s the link: http://www.pronouns.failedslacker.com/

This might feel even more unnatural than pronouns, but I’ve heard of people using a different name as their pronouns (eg someone named Molly using Jack/Jack’s). I agree with Alex, don’t be afraid to try out as many different things as you need. Something will fit :)
