The Cliks

Lucas Silveira leads this Toronto band named for “two body parts. One male, one female. You can do the math.” As of 2007 he was holding off on testosterone for the sake of his music career.

I love the Cliks! I love Lucas! I find his voice to be pretty androgynous, which is nice — you can listen to the music without getting hung up on the singer's gender. And he can go beautifully between low and high notes.

Besides, he was one of the first trans guys I read about who didn't go on testosterone. It was great to find out that you can choose the body you want: you don't have to pick between two full sets of gendered body parts.

The Cliks=Tres cool. It’s people like Lucas who make me feel I’m not quite so weird to identify in my head as chiefly male (with a bit of dancing on the borders) and not want to give up my mezzo-soprano voice to T.
