I don’t see my gender as complex.
“Describe an outfit you’ve worn that expressed the complexity of your gender.”
Someone wrote…
I don’t understand the question about clothing expressing the complexity of my gender, because:
- I don’t see clothes as representations of my gender. I just wear whatever is comfortable and practical. I don’t understand why coloured threads are separated into sexes.
- I don’t see my gender as complex. Just because I don’t fit into stereotypical i.e. common representations of sex and gender, doesn’t mean that I am complex. It just means I’m different.
It’s a bit baffling to me that people characterise me as “male” just because I wear “men’s clothing.” It is all so perplexing! I wish I could wear whatever I wanted and people would just say “Oh, you look nice today.”
What’s your experience?

I really like your phrasing in your second point. I definitely know people who can sympathize, who find their sex/gender comfortable and familiar and simple [while the majority of society may find it uncomfortable, weird, and complex]. Thanks for sharing!

I loved that part of this quote, too. Sometimes I try to imagine how people see me; they might think I'm weird and ridiculous and maybe even monstrous, but luckily that's not how I feel at all.

Yes!
One thing I've always disliked is the thought that hmmm, if I wear a dress, will it then make people thing "Ah! See! Rory *is* a girl afterall, why else would ze wear a dress?" maybe because it's hot as fuck out there and I feel like it? Clothes are just clothes… but it's hard sometimes tl not worry how people will misinterpret things… and this is coming from someone who is genderqueer and not even on the far end of either spectrum :P It's pretty lame, how society works when it comes to clothes.

Hah! Someone else! It's a bit of a relief to see someone who doesn't get the whole importance of nonphysical gender traits. It would be nice to just have people not think about if a coat or a color is from the 'other' gender's department and think about if it looks *good* on you or not. Maybe someday.

Thanks for the replies :D I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets tired of being lumped into a category simply because I'm in a certain outfit. They all need to remember that clothes do not make a man!
