Recommendation: Wicked Desires

Wicked Desires

Wicked Desires
Short Film

This film is interesting because it’s told from the straight younger sibling’s perspective, and really shows how one person’s struggle with gender identity can affect the whole family.

This is a really well-done film, and surprisingly well-acted.

I'm grumbling because there were no captions so I had to make my SO interpret for me.

    1. Parents can be so fraking blind.
    2. He was so pretty I wanted to give hugs!

another_julian, how come you needed captioning? Are you deaf too? I am deaf myself so most of the videos I post via recommendations, I can't watch =\\

Oh- question for the deaf & Deaf folk- I've taken enough ASL to know that it's closer to French Sign Language than British. I only just now learned Auslan exists. So I recognize that even if I find signed videos, it might not cater to all English-readers. The goal is to continue reaching towards wider audiences. Besides nagging my ASL-proficient friends to make gender-related videos and promoting facebook groups which champion captions on YouTube, do you (anyone, of course, not just Rory) have any tips for where to find videos that better serve these (i.e. deaf, Deaf, hoh, allies) segments of the population?

I would just recommend searching through tags that has both ASL and trans/gender/genderqueer related terms. I actually recently found this one guy who captions all his vlogs!! I was pretty excited!:

He mentions several other people making gender related vlogs that are being captioned too. I'm hopeful it'll start spreading around in the trans/gender variant youtube community as I've always been kinda frustrated with how pretty much nothing is captioned on youtube. I caption my vlogs too and do talk a bit about gender but nothing too in depth yet.

Anyway if I ever find some sort of goldmine, I'll let you know, heh.

I'm in the process of captioning all friggin 40+ videos of mine. Tobey is really good about his though. sillyyetsuccinct captions some of his too.

    Sheik replied:

especially now that you've friended me, I feel like a jerk for not having it done yet. -_-"

Yes, I am Deaf. Hence why I only watch kitten videos on youtube — the language of cute needs no translation. ;)

This film was painful to watch — but only because it does such a good job of telling Caleb's story. I also liked the perspective from the "other side".
