Recommendation: Supporting Majid Tavakoli
anna recommends…
activism
This picture is one example of the nationwide support for Majid Tavakoli in Iran. He is part of the green movement for recognition of people’s votes.
They tried to humiliate him by forcing him to wear women’s clothing and giving photos to the media. Now Iranian men post images of themselves with hijabs on the internet to support Majid.

I have been following this. It makes me tear up. It is a very beautiful beginning of solidarity across gender lines. Only a beginning.
I hope that these men’s solidarity with women will carry forth and develop and blossom. And that we will continue to see powerful and creative images of the efforts of Iranian people for liberation.

This is awesome beyond words, the use of genderqueer images in the fight for democracy and liberation. Long life to the democratic movement in Iran.

I spend hours in awe to look at all the images of proud men. the did not make fun of it or tried to play it down. To bad the links do not work anymore. :(
On the one side, I see how they want to stand up for their political believes, but on the other side I think about the great freedom of doing what they might have always wanted to wear and their support for their sisters who are forced to wear the hijab in public.
