Recommendation: Gender, Perception, and Dreams

A reader recommends…

This is a somewhat long, but quite interesting, article written by a pansexual semi-cisgender woman about her struggles with her own gender identity, her relationship with her FTM partner, and the ways in which gender expresses itself in our subconscious. She discusses the ways in which gender is just one of many characteristics which differentiate us, and explains that to her androgynous sensibilities, it’s a rather insignificant characteristic.

Male Pattern Boldness
A sewing blog

This is a sewing blog I’ve been following, written by a man who’s been sewing for himself, his boyfriend, and his ‘cousin’ Cathy. In this particular entry he admits that he is himself Cathy, and he segues into a brilliant, casual, assured invitation to his mainstream sewing readership to consider gender deviance. He’s a superb sewist, and a smart, funny, talented blogger, and he’s encouraging people to think outside the lines. Plus he uses lots of vintage patterns! What more could you want?

Recommendation: Blog Post on Offbeat Bride about Wedding Suits

XylophoneGender recommends…

Wedding Suits & Dresses

Seattle based author/blogger Ariel writes & manages OffBeatBride. She tracked down S.Bear Bergman to give advice concerning “wedding suits for butches, transmasculine beings, and other festive gender-blenders.” She also posted about the wedding of queerfemme Aly and genderqueer Elroi in Atlanta, and was quick to amend the pronouns she used for Elroi once she learned that ze prefers gender-neutral ones in print.
P.S Amazing reader comment quoting a wedding pre-invite: “He was my girlfriend, then he was my boyfriend, and now he’s my fiancé, but he has been my true love all along. We would be honored if you would join us in celebrating our commitment to each other. Wedding invitation to follow.”

Recommendation: Allan’s Amato’s Crossdressing Party Portraits

Erica (the photo curator) recommends…

More photos of the kind us ’Forkers love by photographer Allan Amato. I found this and other amazingness while perusing Coilhouse’s “gender” tag–which is pretty polygot but worth checking out, if only for the Soviet crossdressers.

Recommendation: For the Love of Corsets

Erica (the photo curator) recommends…

“We all have that one piece of our wardrobe that has seen so much, done so much for us, with us, against us. It has been there during the hard times and the good. It has seen us fat and thin and every shade between. It has laughed at us, supported us, held us. It might be an old brooch or a favorite pair of shoes, a scarf or a coat. I have a number of these, and this corset is one of them.”

Lee Harrington, “a guy who lived over 25 of his years as a woman…tends to get flack about being femme… if you transitioned, aren’t you supposed to be a man?” In “For the Love of Corsets,” Lee talks about his experiences donning his favorite corset after transitioning, the reactions he received, and how it fits into his current identity.
