I identify as… Bigender. I feel some mix of male and female with an increasingly more feminine gender expression. And if not feminine, than atleast more neutral.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … They/them though she/her doesn’t hurt when I’m looking super cute and feminine!

I’m attracted to… I’m androsexual so men and more masculine beings. I had originally came out as gay. I’m attracted to nerds, geeks, gamers, and Potterheads. To people who will talk for hours. To people who see me for me. I currently have an incredible boyfriend and we have been dating for almost a year. He is amazing and is about to graduate with a master’s degree!

When people talk about me, I want them to… Use my name and pronouns. Not focus on my gender

I want people to understand… Bigender is real. I’m not imaging something, I’m not stuck or confused. I’m not a woman because I wear make up. I’m not a man because my chromosomes are XY. I’m being my authentic self.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … They/them is best.

I’m attracted to… Still questioning for the most part, but as it stands I think I’m pansexual. So, everyone.

I want people to understand… That just because I have a long ponytail doesn’t necessarily mean “that’s a 100% girl 100% of the time”.

Question: Insight into androgynous expression?

Someone asks…

I was assigned female at birth, but I identify as androgynous. I’m lucky, since I don’t look very feminine anyhow, and since I prefer to dress very casually, I seem to pass as male in most situations.

That’s fine on a daily basis, but every now and then I feel bad about it, because I’m not a man and I’d rather be read as androgynous. I’d like to incorporate something more feminine in my gender expression, but that seems like a minefield, since I don’t want to go back to being read as female.

On the other hand that may just be something I tell myself because I’ve gotten so used to the privileges of being read as male and am secretly afraid of the repercussions of being read as a femme man, even though that would seem to be a more accurate description of my identity on some days.

I’m not even sure what I’m asking. Insight into androgynous expression? Tips on how to be more confident about not presenting traditionally masculine? Anything’s welcome.

Please post your response in the comments below.
