Don’t bother yourself for not wearing tight clothes and dresses. Go for what makes you feel comfortable. Feel free to wear what you want.

To counterpose, I think it speaks to how our society functions that we put so much value in appearance aka we don’t have much actual power over our lives. I think if it was a real democracy we wouldn’t obsess so much over appearance.

There’s some true to that for sure, but I also think that appearance can be a powerful form of self-expression. I like that it’s a public display, rich with private meaning. I like to think of it as situational art.
But yes, the other side is true too, that there is pressure to conform one’s appearance according to external – and sometimes even malicious – standards.
