Recognize Myself

Someone wrote…

I’m afraid that no one will ever be able to see me the way that I want, unless I take hormones. My face and body are too feminine to be seen as androgynous when I dress in masculine clothes, and I end up feeling disappointed about how I look and how people perceive me. So, I spend time meeting other’s expectations. I “play female,” and do it well. No one knows that I don’t recognize myself in the mirror. But if I transition, I’m afraid that my target audience, and my partner, will no longer find me sexually attractive. So I use what I have been handed, and pretend.
I wish I were as courageous as so many others.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Fragrance

Someone wrote…

Today I wore a men’s fragrance (Armani Code, if you’re curious) for the first time. I met up with a girlfriend, and we exchanged our usual enormous hug. She took a deep breath, and told me I smelled good. Then, she smiled, inhaled deeply again, and said, “You smell like a BOY!” That made my day.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

MBG

You can call me… Mechabeccagrrr!

I identify as… a rarely butch, sometimes femme, queer feminist mother with a penchant for eating entire blocks of cheese.

As far as third-person pronouns go, … I prefer feminine pronouns or just my name :)

I’m attracted to… femmes, cismen, and mostly my partner Jeremy. I can be attracted to butches, but the mood has to strike me. :) I’m also into a really dorky joke.

When people talk about me, I want them to… be proud.

I want people to understand… that being queer isn’t just about sexuality and/or sexual preference.

About Mechabeccagrrr!
My name is Becca. I love my daughter, my partner, and my home. I love the place I’ve made for myself, and I’ve come a long way. Life is for embracing. Yeah, all that good stuff. :)

Mulan

Someone wrote…

My partner and I (both transmen) were singing along to Mulan (as in the Disney film – as you do) and having a good old natter about the song ‘reflection’, especially the line “who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me, why is my reflection someone I don’t know” – any other trans/queer/etc people out there getting that?! :oP

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

A life not alone

Someone wrote…

I have always felt between two genders, not quite a girl and not quite a boy. As someone who is middle-aged this has deeply affected my personality and self-esteem. It is wonderful to see young people today embracing who they are. I wish the internet had been around when I was of that age. Oh how different my life may have been knowing that I was not alone.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Gender?

“I am a 16 year old Genderqueer ‘Female’. I strive for shock value and I love the nerdy look c: My seester had posted a photo and encouraged me to post one of me! She is my role model. She was the one that showed me how to embrace my inner self and to have the courage to show who I really am on the outside. I love you Sis, Thank you.”

My Inner Self

Someone wrote…

My partner is a transguy who sees gender in a fairly rigid and binary way. He says that he has always been attracted to feminine, “curvy” female-bodied people. This is how he sees me, and how I’ve told myself that I must be for him to love me. But this is not how I feel, and it is becoming increasingly hard to suppress my inner self. We have been together for almost three years, and I feel so ashamed to let him see who I really am.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?
