Missing

Someone wrote…

I’m sick of falling asleep to feel whole, only to wake up and find parts missing.

Rockin’

Someone wrote…

I saw a little boy at a concert on Sunday – probably 5 years old – wearing this rockin’ teal and white chevron ankle-length skirt. Made me remember that I want to dedicate my life to making sure that that’s okay no matter where you live.

Restroom

Someone wrote…

I like being able to use the female restroom and not get clocked for being a male in a past life. I never take it for granted because I know others do not have it as easy as I do.

A Map of Gender-Diverse Cultures

This is in promotion of the documentary Two Spirits, about the Navajo Two Spirit gender identity and other non-binary gender identities in the world. The map has blurbs on various identities from all around the world.

Profile: Pretty Boi

You can call me… Pretty Boi

I identify as… agender

As far as third-person pronouns go, … he/she/they. I can’t be bothered to insist.

I’m attracted to… perceptive men, hard women, politically radical people, queerness that deviates from the queer norm, hairy bodies, quiet people, style, openness, confidence and also people who are working on their confidence, simplification, complexity. Artists without an art form.

When people talk about me, I want them to… stop assuming they know anything about who I am and where I come from. I’m guilty too, though.

I want people to understand… you can work hard to get places.

About Pretty Boi
Dog walker, weight lifter, student, ADHD, too many goals, confused, getting there.

The slightest alteration

Someone wrote…

It’s interesting how even the slightest alteration to one’s appearance can mean the difference between being read as male or female.

I recently purchased a small messenger bag to carry my phone, wallet, etc., and I am finding that I’m now being read as female. I suspect it’s because the strap goes right down the middle of my chest, accentuating my biological figure. It’s also not much bigger than a purse, but was advertised as a men’s bag. I usually pass as male about 90% of the time, but adding this bag to my ensemble has tilted the scales in the other direction. I feel compelled to get rid of it and continue putting things into my pockets.

I’m sad. I loved that bag. Any suggestions for bags that don’t divide one’s chest would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes backpacks are too bulky.

Recommendation: Carrington

KC recommends…

It’s the unusual and true love story between writer Lytton Strachey, a gay man, and a gender-nonconforming woman, the artist Dora Carrington. When first meeting Carrington, Strachey mistakes her for a boy and asks “Who is this ravashing boy?” It’s a very touching movie that you won’t forget about any time soon.

Question: Neutral dress clothes?

Harley asks…

I’m going to my cousin’s wedding soon, and since I’m agender, I’d like to find something fairly androgynous to wear.

Since I’m also DFAB, and have a somewhat feminine face, a suit or men’s dress shirt and tie would probably work alright. However, I would like to find a more androgynous alternative if at all possible.

Do gender-neutral dress clothes exist, and if so, where can I find them?

Please post your response in the comments below.
