Powders

Someone wrote…

Sometimes I put on makeup.

Not eyeliner, or blush: no, I use foundation. The purpose of this? To make my face look more masculine than it really is. It turns out that you can do quite a bit with some colored powders.

It’s a bit addicting, but it’s the only thing that makes me feel better about my gender identity.

Who would have thought that the one thing I always thought I hated could be my salvation?

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Recommendation: Empowermentors

Jaye Johnson recommends…

empowermentors

Empowermentors is an uber-active, supportive collective and its Facebook group’s quite lively. According to its founder, it’s open to: “Trans/Disabled/Queer/Femme Hackers of Color.”

She goes on to say, “The Empowermentors Collective is a skillshare, discussion, and support network for intersectionally marginalized people of color with a critical interest in technology and media hacking.”

And:

“Also, we currently have many online groups– an email listserv, irc channel, facebook group, and also google+ … I also try to crosspost things between tumblr, twitter, diaspora, pump.io, the facebook page, and google+ page, so that people have a choice of where they engage.”

Check them out on their website or on facebook.

Enjoy!

Profile: Alex

You can call me… Alex

I identify as… a genderfluid pansexual (I seem to be dominantly neutral so far!)

As far as third-person pronouns go, … please use they pronouns!

I’m attracted to… I’m attracted to people who are similar to me. That’s it. Doesn’t take much, most people I see are just plain adorable!

When people talk about me, I want them to… not care about my gender or sexuality. I wish more people would. I also want them to at least know that I’m not a terrifying abomination as some think.

I want people to understand… that if you mess up my pronouns once, its okay. Seriously. I’m also willing to explain anything about me you don’t understand.

About Alex
My name is Alex (born Alexis, but Alex makes me feel more comfortable) and I am a student waiting for their time to graduate. I am in a jazz band and concert band, and soon will be switching concert with marching. I specialize in tuba and baritone/euphonium, but most brass instruments I can manage. I just recently realized I’m genderfluid, and thus am making a few changes to make my life easier. (that’s why there’s no image, ahah!) I have, however, known I’m pansexual since a young age. I recently have taken to helping educate people at my school about LGBT+ people, and explaining the different genders and sexualities out there.

Another Platform

Boink wrote…

I know there are some people who get annoyed when a random stranger asks about their gender, but I kind of like it. If someone has to ask, it means I’m doing a pretty good job at looking androgynous. Plus, it gives me a quick opportunity to say something about gender to a stranger, which isn’t a platform I would have otherwise had.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Pool Party

“Last week I finally purchased my first one piece swimsuit. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but have felt such fear and self-doubt about, until now.  Wearing this to a pool party at my parent’s house was such an uplifting experience for me in terms of love and body acceptance. Also, I think these photos turned out really great, yeah?”

Question: Birth control and T

Vinegar asks…

I’m not FTM, but I am genderqueer. I would like to take testosterone, or natural
t-boosters/estrogen suppressors for the secondary masculine sexual characteristics, but I’m on birth control. I can find NO experiences online to help me figure out if that is even possible.

Does anybody have any experience with this? (Discontinuing birth control is not an option, currently.)

Please post your response in the comments below.

Gender Expressions

Someone wrote…

I don’t feel like my gender, but I like my body. I think I might be genderqueer.
The people around me read me as a butch lesbian. My gender expressions are very mixed, but the way I dress is pretty “masculine” most of the time with some “feminine” clothing ideas thrown it. I do not want hormones or to ever hide my breasts, but I also do not want people to read me at just a butch lesbian.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

Liberation

Someone wrote…

Realizing I wasn’t a girl was one of the biggest events in my life. I thought I was for years because everyone told me so, never thinking there was anything else I could be. I always knew there was something off about it all, I never felt right trying to fit into that.

Now that I know I’m not a girl, or a boy, I feel like I’m just a person, and it’s such a liberating feeling.
