“A few years before I realized I was trans, I was enchanted by a Gilded Age painting by Charles Walter Stetson called “Magnolia”. Upon first glance it looks like a typical still life… except for the unusual (almost supernatural) quality of how it bursts forth out of nothingness. The magnolia became a symbol for my transformation from a life of “hidden emotional anxiety” to one of glorious self-acceptance.”
