It’s Not ‘Crossplay’

Submitted by Eli Rhys, the model (on the left). Photography by Stephanie.

“On the right is my partner, who took me to a scifi/fantasy convention. The closer it got to the convention, the more nervous I got about passing. In this photo, I’m sweating it out in 92-degree heat under 4 layers of clothing. But it was the first time that I consistently got called ‘him’ and ‘they’ all day, the first time I genuinely came off as androgynous. By getting into character I somehow finally became myself to the outside world.”
