Home for the holidays

Submitted by Shannon Kelley, the model.

“I am fortunate to have a loving and supportive family and this picture was taken over the holidays, during family time. I like this photo because my Dad took it, it features my brand new (LGBT) lambda tattoo and genderblending style.”

Curious… Why does lambda stand for LGBT? Is it just “L” for “Lesbian”, or shorthand for the whole thing, or is there a story behind it?

Shannon is beautifully androgynous. Would turn my head any day!

hi Danielle! it’s pretty easy to use Google for things like, “why is lambda a gay symbol?”

    there ya go.

“The Greek letter lambda was selected as a symbol by the Gay Activists Alliance of New York in 1970.[5] In December 1974, the lambda was officially declared the international symbol for gay and lesbian rights by the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland”
