Freed up
Someone wrote…
Until recently, I didn’t question the binary, but always felt a bit uncomfortable, but I didn’t know what I was uncomfortable with. I was assigned female at birth, enjoy dressing as a girl, and most of the time I act feminine, but I don’t feel just female.
The discovery that not everyone perceives gender as binary has really freed me up inside, even if it hasn’t changed much about how I act.
What’s your experience?

I had the same experience…For me, I remember for years eschewing anything “girly” in lieu of more tomboyish pursuits because I associated them with being female…but secretly trying on makeup with friends or admiring feminine frills and other things. I always got a weird feeling with all this…like all these things “weren’t me” or looked really wrong on me, even though I sort of liked them. Every time I’d be forced to dress up for a large social event in a dress or something I’d feel really fake like I was wearing drag, but I still felt drawn to manifestations of femininity. Eventually I realized that I could be feminine and not be a girl. Suddenly everything clicked. I still get misgendered a lot, but I feel so free, and I have a few people in my life who understand…that is enough for me :)
