Gender hack
Someone wrote…
I aim for androgynous, but I’m often read as male. This wouldn’t bother me, if it weren’t for those moments where something (like my legal name) tells people that I’m supposedly female. They look so put-off it’s depressing.
And then again, I kind of like being a gender hack. Pros and cons.
What’s your experience?

I present as male, and until recently, my legal name betrayed my gender presentation. I changed my name, and pass as male most of the time, but things like over-the-phone conversations people call me m’am and Ms. and stuff.
30% of the time when people gender me as female, I don’t correct them unless I talk to them for more than a few minutes. The way I’m treated when I’m gendered different ways is very surprising. The way people talk to men and women can be so different!
I don’t want to transition, and consider myself a male-leaning androgyne, so I end up explaining my gender or constantly “coming out” as transgender. I don’t mind it all that much because I’m an androgynous trans person, but sometimes it gets tiring always explaining myself.
There are pros and cons. :P
