At peace.

Someone wrote…

I shaved my head to feel masculine. Instead, I became at peace with my femininity.

What’s your experience?

And what are you thinking about gender right now?

I know what you mean. For years I’ve felt uncomfortable being female-bodied, but once I started exploring ways to express my masculine side, suddenly my female side and I were on speaking terms again. :-)

I think I’ve heard someone say this here before, but–my outfit wasn’t right this morning until I added eyeliner!

I’m getting tempted to shave my head… to encourage people to rub it.

I feel the same! Ever since I cut my hair short, I’ve felt more comfortable exploring my femininity. It’s such a peaceful feeling.

I LOVE having my head shaved. I feel sexy. I get sir’d and yet I feel feminine too. I mean, it’s hard to ignore these tits…lol, but people do and I get sir’d.

I wish I had a head that could look good bald. But I like having my hair longer and I don’t know what I’d do without having hair to fuss with. I’ve had it very short, but I’m just more comfortable long. I pulled my hair back into a tight pony tail the other day and my boss accused me of having had a haircut. Funny what people see.

You know, I did the same thing. And I didn’t realize that this was what it did to me until reading that. I felt so beautiful then.

I feel you there. Sometimes I’m more at peace with being a biological female by doing things most females I know would shun. For example, wearing my big, stompy boots and an unisex bondage skirt to prom. It’s not just “a goth thing”, it was also a big gender thing to me – all the girls were wearing stilettos and fancy dresses. This also works the other way around… I feel at peace with my masculinity when I put on eyeliner or nail polish. About the hair itself, I would like to get a Mohawk to express my androgyny, it would probably even look good on my head. Because although I already express my gender with my clothes and, for the most part, body language, the hair doesn’t quite feel right. Sadly, I’m used to people around here being a bit too narrow when it comes to alternate hairstyles. By them “being a bit too narrow” I mean I don’t want to experience physical violence and/or worse for daring to express myself outside of the norm. Almost nobody seems to really notice the whole androgyny thing because they probably think it’s about the subculture, or because my body is pretty much female in its form, though I don’t know if I should be happy about that or not… OK, I’m happy with my body looking female, but being treated as female when I obviously do not identify as such can be a real annoyance.
Sorry for the long rant, people.

I shaved my hair recently. Initially it was to get rid of the hair I’d ruined with dye, bleaching and perming but I actually like it. I’ve had it this short before due to alopecia, but there’s something empowering about it all. The choice to do something so bold and all the respect I’ve recieved for it. My flatmates and friends have all said how I pull it off well too which is an added bonus :D

I want my head shaved/mohawked so badly, and I’m beginning to suspect for the same reasons.

Accidentally shaved my head, and then the next day, wore a dress (comfortably) for the first time in five years. Somehow, it seemed to fit.

Heh, I had almost exactly the same reaction. I mean I also enjoyed that it made me look a little more masculine, but I really just found that having a shaved head gave me confidence and attitude. It also made me feel more comfortable in feminine clothing, ’cause I knew there at least was something about my appearance that was not traditionally feminine.
