Some assembly required.

“I’m not a Brewster, I’m the son of a sea cook!” says Carey Grant running away. “That’s just fine! I’m not a cab driver, I’m a coffee pot!” — end of Arsenic and Old Lace.
I was born the grandchild my grandmother always wanted but she died before I was two.
I was born a complication in my parents’ lives
that they never expected.
I was born a disappointment and a headache for my siblings who had to mind me.
I spent half a century being what other people wanted
This next half century I’m going to be me.
I guess I required a lot more than some assembly
I required several re-writes and considerable reinvention.
