You can call me… Shay
I identify as… Genderqueer and questioning along the transmasculine spectrum.
As far as third-person pronouns go, … they or he.
I’m attracted to… dykes, fags, butches, trans men, bois, drag kings, femmes, genderqueer folks.
And a good sense of humor.
I want people to understand… that gender and sexuality are fluid. Throughout my life I have identified as straight, gay, bisexual, queer, and pansexual. And while growing up, different people have identified me as a baby butch, a dyke, a heterosexual female, a femme, a drag king, a boi, a trans guy… and somehow throughout all of this, I have reached the place where I am today. Which is still delightfully and painfully unstable.
There is no way for me to articulate or play out all my seemingly contrary identities. With women, I have felt like a lesbian and a straight boy. With men, I have felt like a straight girl and a gay man.
Other people need to understand and allow room for complex identities. And sometimes people need to understand that my body, gender, and sexuality are none of their business.
And understand that these identities are simply departure points for my interactions with the world. They do not have any influence on my favorites types of movies, what kind of music makes me really happy, or who I want to be when I grow up.
